What will be the Legendary in Warlords of Draenor?

Update: It is a Ring

I’m curious what will be the Legendary in Warlords of Draenor. Not if there will be one, but what item. I’ve already seen rumours that there might be two items up for grabs, and much discussion – perhaps one which will be like the People’s Cloak of Everybody is LeetSauce, and another as a much harder to get item, or an item which requires dedicated effort in Heroic or better raids.

Lets just push the us vs them, casuals vs hardcore, its not fair, and waste of dev hours discussions to the side for this post and enjoy some speculation. I’ve bloged some snarks about the Legendary before, but I’m holding that as an aside now. This is about what will work going forward.

The opinions of the Mists of Pandaria legendary quest chain has mostly been positive, and those who liked it tended to really like it. With that in mind I think the designers will again seek to tell a lore heavy story as the background to a Legendary item and achievement. I’m all in favour of that. It worked for me as a roleplayer and as a gamer.

Please make it link to both the history of the realm and the current story which is unfolding. Add some hooks which are quasi-role specific, like altering the challenges for the roles the characters might take (dos vs tank vs heals doing different things). And despite the fact I hated it the link into repeat raids and grinding drops is something that I think needs to stay too.

Konachan.com---100777-blue_eyes-blue_hair-elf-green_hair-long_hair-short_hair-weapon-world_of_warcraft-yao_renIn terms of gear slot the Necklaces, Rings, and Trinkets look to me to be an obvious next step, but any slot really could be used given that there were many versions of the final legendary in MoP to suit every spec. I think a trinket could be something really special. The lore aspects of many other games in having an uber-powerful-widget that enhances the characters matches a trinket very well. Say the a Ever-burning-vial-of-demon-blood which was going to be the thing which corrupted the Orcs, but instead is re-purposed into a trinket for our hero to use against the Warlords.

I saw a suggestion for a Helm but matching a helm to look right to all the other armour styles will be a bitch, and I cannot see that happening.

Another suggestion was for a Shield and as it would be useless for all the non-shield users I think that gets shot down quickly. Likewise I don’t think we will see another range weapon as it is too class specific. I’d love to see a weapon again, but I agree with many folks who have said that we have had many weapons before.

Happy hunting, and may all your legendary grinds be quick and uneventful.

Another AH bargin?

More bargins ffound: cheap-ish Armour kits and some cloth to resell, but a set of Revenant’s Treads for 30g looks good.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say that any spell caster gear for Mail and Plate wearers seems very cheap. So cheap in fact that you’d be mad not to snaffle the when it appears at these prices – if you’d use them.

RevenantsTreads on the AH

Is all spellpower mail and plate just diry cheap?

In this case I think it was probably made to level a skill, but for 30g – its a great price. The mats alone are worth 60g.

Epic AH drops

Had a quiet 30 minutes last night of digging through the AH and found some real bargains.

Purchase window for Boots of avoidance

9g for a level 40 epic, Bargin!

I found a Signet of the Accord (ilevel 200 epic Tanking ring) for around 120g, a Durable Nerubhide Cape ( ilevel 200 epic Tanking Cloak) for just over 200g, both which will go to my Paladin when he hits 80. Also found a set of Boots of Avoidance, which are a groovy set of Tanking boots for my lowbie Warrior Tank for a staggering 9g.

So a nice night for buyers of Tank gear on the AH. It is funny to consider that the enchants for some of these items will probably cost 30-40% of the buy price of the item. I’ve also got another really swanky cloak and boots with bids, but I really doubt that I’ll win given how often the AJ is farmed by folks.

I don’t use the AH for cash generation most days, more to periodically look for great deals on gear I might want. Was stoked to get that gear last night for my Paladin.

LeggingsStoneWeaver for 200g

Are 226 legs worth 200g, or did I just overspend?

Also made out ok just after that with a little purchase that I’ll try to resell, a Leggings of the Stoneweaver, which is 226 ilevel Shaman gear, for 200g.

I think this AH scanning thing could have some merit, and although I do most of my searches “by hand” and pick bargains – this could put me a lot closer to grabbing some silly gear for alts.

Perhaps work toward a 6th toon with epic flying.

Patch 3.3.2 Speed-ups and Rings

The WoW 3.3.2 patch that many have been waiting for has arrived, and there are a good range of new things for us to ponder. Go read if you’re keen, else absorb my somewhat brief rant here. We can kill Arthas now.

Firstly we have a new Ashen Verdict Ring, designed for Strength DPS classes (like my Death Knight). I have to ask what the hell anyone needs Hit Rating for on 251 level gear as dps? But then I remember that dual-wield plate dps like Hit Rating, and two hander dps probably don’t need it as much. Doubly bad for me as a Draeni, and I am already about 3% over the cap without this ring.

So while the ring is ok, the Rep: Friendly version is not world changing. And as you can change the choice for 200 gp, I took the Tanking ring for now, as I needed the upgrade there more. Later I’ll consider a switch if the higher Rep items are better, and I snaffle a good Tank ring elsewhere.

Secondly there have been a number of adjustments to the speed of regular dungeons. A lot f places got adjusted, so that random dungeon runs should be quicker, as the NPCs move faster. Violet Hold, Culling of Stratholme, and Halls of Lightning to name a few.

By way of example the Violet Hold portals now spawn a lot faster, they were not kidding! My irregular morning run to get 2x Frost emblems was a tank ‘n’ run rather than tank ‘n’ spank. Seriously huge increase in the speed between portals, and I think its a good change, but I pity teams who are struggling, as your Tank will miss many initial pick-ups unless they really keep active. As tank I was sometimes pulling away from the last mobs to get back to a good position for the next set. It is a good change for VH, where the fights are a tad static sometimes.

I can feel the fun times coming. I like this patch.
