Music to murder by

An non-sensical as it sounds I really like chilled music, or classical when playing fast games. It should be more heavy, perhaps faster, and certainly more like the YouTube “how to solo scholo” vids I guess. But that isn’t me. Could even be the WoW music, although I listen to that at work when I’m not playing, so it seems odd to hear it when I’m thrashing about in game.

Some of the artists / bands*:

  • Air
  • Avalanches
  • Beastie Boys
  • Coldplay
  • DIG
  • Endorphin
  • Groove Armada
  • Jamiroquai
  • James Brown
  • Mozart
  • Moby
  • Nina Simone
  • PJ Harvey
  • REM
  • St Germain
  • Thievery Corp

There is also a regular set of Podcasts, and while they’re harder to listen to with Vent as well, sometimes they have the best content in them. I’ll have to create a new playlist called “Chilled Gamer Music”, maybe gaming is chilling and escapism…, more than its about the “fun”? I’ll have to ponder.

* when I went looking there were too many to list, so this is the most common set.

  1. Wow, now I tried to shoot a little glance at the playlist i usually have on while playing WoW with music on, and I feel an awful lot more agressive. My headphones are usually bouncing around to pretty harsh metal, no matter if I’m running terrified around in a battleground, or if I’m picking flowers in absolute peace. We all have our tastes I guess 😛

  2. Makes me think too that I should load up some heavy stuff, and kill some toons. We used to enjoy Prodigy while playing UT and Quake, so maybe all I’m missing is the music.

Thanks for the comments on my blog 🙂

Loving your blog – ill have to add you to my blogroll.

As for music while playing – if I’m just goofing around in game, maybe doing professions, or questing, or doing dailies, I have a mix that I have common across all my iPod’s (yes, I own multiple).

I am a rather eclectic guy, so I listen to everything from Aerosmith to Iron Maiden to Lacuna Coil (BLEAH! Have you heard their new album?) to Enya to Tchaikovsky (my fav classical composer).

When I am instancing, or raiding, I actually only listen to the sounds of my spells going off – partially because I don’t want music to distract me, but also because, somehow, it feels a little like being back in my high school band. You know, tap the foot to keep tempo? I never did that. I listened to the song being played and went with it. I guess I am kinda strange that way, but I “keep tempo” by listening to the sounds of my spells going off.
